Youth Girls National Championships squad
The 57-strong squad was picked from a little over 160 girls who attended the Wagga Wagga carnival, with the group now vying for selection in next year’s National Youth Girls Championships, to be held from the May 3-8 2015, in Mandurah, Western Australia.
The girls will attend a training camp in the last weekend in January next year in Sydney where they will undergo testing and trials to push their claims for selection.
A final squad of 27 girls will be selected to travel to Perth in May to represent NSW/ACT at the National Championships.
16 of this initial outfit have worn NSW/ACT colours in a National Championships previously, including Rebecca Beeson and Jodie Hicks, who were this year named in the Youth Girls All-Australian side, following stellar performances the National Championships in Canberra in May.
NSW/ACT Female Programs Manager Libby Sadler welcomed the selection of the initial squad, and praised the performance of the girls at the State Cup.
“It’s very exciting to see such a talented squad of girls assembled, and it bodes very well for next year’s Championships,” Sadler said.
“Following the success of our girls at this year’s Championships I am really looking forward to seeing this squad build on that, with a mixture of new and old faces.
“The standard of play at the State Cup in Wagga Wagga was very impressive, and I can’t wait to see the type of football produced in Western Australia next year.”
